Subcellular modelling of metabolic acclimation

Plant cold acclimation dramatically affects regulation of metabolic pathways. Although it is well known that regulation at the interface of primary and secondary metabolism plays a central role during cold acclimation, underlying metabolic dynamics are less well understood. The aim of this project is to develop a quantitative mathematical model of subcellular plant metabolism to study the role of chloroplast-located metabolic pathways for the stabilization of primary and secondary metabolism during cold exposure. A combination of non-aqueous fractionation and experimental high-throughput methods is applied to resolve dynamics of plant metabolism to a subcellular level. Methods from the field of applied mathematics, systems theory and bioinformatics are used to identify strategies of cold-induced metabolic regulation.
